Katie's Birthday

The Lott-Pettus family reunion was held in Goliad on the Saturday before Katie's birthday so we drove down early to visit with everyone and then celebrated her birthday early Sunday morning. Momma made her pink cupcakes with pink icing and let her eat them for breakfast. Even though I never got to do that as a child I'm not going to complain because she let me eat them for breakfast too this time! Katie enjoyed opening her presents on the front porch and then she and Kyle found a bunny in the flowerbed and ended up chasing it all over the yard. Needless to say, they slept the whole way back to College Station! She then had presents to open at home from Meme and Ba and Uncle Johno. Talk about a princess!

Wimberley and Floresville

We decided to take a quick trip out of town after David defended his dissertation to celebrate. We stayed at a really cute motel outside of Wimberley with a beautiful view, ate amazing pizza at a brew house that evening, and then breakfast at a local diner the next morning. The kids loved the pool and didn't want to get it; however, it was unheated so David and I were much less enthusiastic about staying in too long (I can still hear my grandmother saying "Give me courage." every time she had to get in our unheated pool at home). The next morning we drove down to San Marcos and visited with David's parents on the square before doing a little shopping. We stayed in Floresville that night and played at Amy and Sam's the next day. It was a great way to celebrate such a significant accomplishment with great food and great company!

Sprinkler Fun

Looking back on May, we thought it was hot at the time but didn't have any idea of how hot it was going to get. We spent quite a few afternoons playing in the sprinkler while David tried to save our lawn with some extra watering. We bought a blow-up pool later in June which has replaced the sprinkler as the favored activity of the kiddos (and grownups) with pictures to follow shortly.

Mother's Day

The kids made the cutest Mother's Day cards for me with Lindsey's help and I thought I'd share some of their comments. I save these cards in my Bible because they make me smile every time I read them!

Katie (one month shy of her 3rd birthday)
1. What makes Mommy special to you?
I pick her flowers and drink milk with her.

2. What do you enjoy doing with Mommy?
Playing together, we love playing games with her.

3. What is the most beautiful thing about Mommy?
Her dresses, beautiful hair.

4. How would you like to be like Mommy when you grow up?
I want to be funny like her.


Kyle (5 years, 5 months old)
1. What makes your Mommy special?
God (Nene would have loved his answer!)

2. What is your favorite thing to do with Mommy?
Cooking with her.

3. How does she show you she loves you?
We play together and she helps me get dressed and take my medicine - she calls me monkey nose. Momma is a silly girl. My mom always loves me.

4. Why does Daddy love Mommy so much?
Because they got married and then I popped out and she's so pretty.


Kenzie (6 months old - Kyle and Katie helped answer for her!)
1. Why does Kenzie love Mommy so much?
Kyle - Because she was born at the doctor's office and also Momma helps her sit up.

2. How much does Mommy love her kids?
Katie - Forever and ever and ever.

David's Birthday with T-Camp

David received another honor this year by being named a T-Camp namesake. Approximately 20 of his camp counselors stopped by the house to meet us and eat dinner on what happened to be his birthday. That same week we had hosted two other student groups but this was the largest by far. Kyle and Katie enjoyed a great game of Red Rover and then I was introduced to the karate game (my new all-time favorite). After a great meal of hamburgers and hot dogs, we gathered in the kitchen to sing happy birthday to David before eating his mother's amazing chocolate cake.
